Our Story
In 1984, filmmaker Jonathan Heap and I set out to test the power of Music in shaping film. The project: A COLD NIGHT—a decades-long experiment in musical psychology and cinematic storytelling. The idea was bold:
1 Write a song.
2 Shoot a film inspired by that song.
3 Remove the song.
4 Score the film again—as if seeing it for the first time.
Two radically different soundtracks. One single film. Two completely different emotional outcomes.
Shot in late-night New York City—with me behind the camera—“A COLD NIGHT: A Study in Music on Film” invites you to experience firsthand how Music doesn’t just support a film… it transforms it.
With a newly digitized film from 1984, newly recorded 2020 “quarantine-style” Heavy Metal Rock and Orchestral Tracks, and a formal release of 13 August 2020, the birthday of Alfred Hitchcock, this Music Film, entitled “A COLD NIGHT, a Study of Music on Film,” is a discussion of the processes spanning 36 years, and then a presentation of the same film with two different outcomes.
