In the early 1990s when STORMWORKS was just beginning, and at a time when I had composed 3 and arranged 2 championship shows in a row for DCA Bushwhackers, I travelled to different schools around the country. The goal was to meet with the kids, and then in a practice room, compose these original works for the field. The kids were always welcomed and in fact, many moments in the Music were the result of spontaneous interactions.

By example, the girl who would be playing chimes would come in, and I would say... "Okay, let's write a really cool chime part here."

This sort of thing went on for almost all of the 9 original shows. Most of these shows were written on the same tour around the country and connected in motif and message, not only to themselves but to all of the Stormworks. which had their beginnings in 1976.

Within each WPIM the kids watched over my shoulder as I composed and were definitely a part of the requests. So here, in each WPIM is Music Education at its best. The works were born of a real-time and observed, creative experience. For many years now, since the early 1990s, these works have been not-so-subtly imitated. I suggest involving your students at the original level again, by telling them how these pieces were created, and how they too can create their own original experience with this Music.

These works have been specifically composed to be rendered on the field. Each work has proven itself by having a content recognized with either state or national championships. Imitations have done well... now come back and enjoy the originals which launched a thousand ships.

And for those of you who give yourself the title, "Music Educator", these works have everything you need to reach your students, audiences, visual staff and adjudicators while at the same time maintaining a cohesive, consistent, concert-preparing musical journey. Most of these works have their counterpart in the Concert Arena for a more thorough and integrated learning experience.

Each Musical Story is a playable, challenging, dramatic and constantly interesting statement. The Music lends itself to exciting visual interpretations. Pit Percussion is written. Battery percussion awaits the talents of your staff-writers.
