Why? Some years back, STORMDirector John Skelton of Oregon told me a story that meant a great to deal to me. Still does. He played DAVID for his kids. By the end of the week, the kids presented him with a check, the funds of which were apparently amassed in secret. The kids gave John the check and said, "Please get us that piece."
Yes... such sentiment coming from hard-working, respectful student Musicians is indeed a reason to stay in the ring and giving our best.
I had but 2 iChat sessions with the student Musicians of Caston High School in Indiana. They commissioned a piece in spite of meager resources... and did so with great Heart.
I had to scan the agreement and share it with those of you who are True Music Educators and Musicians. Above, you see a meaningful and self-revelatory Gift. The commission agreement form is signed by each and every one of the kids from the Caston Band.
This means so much ... BUT... not for "me," personally. They have said something good and timely and needed about themselves.
These are kids who have chosen Kindness and Thoughtfulness as their method of operation.
Thank you, Caston student Musicians for choosing this path and for serving as an example of the effects even small acts of Kindness may have to topple that which moves At the Speed of Dark.
